How to get a different colour light for each contact on Android
A light for the whole app is good. A light for one person is better. With Glint you can make Mom glow orange while the rest of WhatsApp glows green, or make any app light up the top edge when a message contains a word you care about.
Step by step
- Open the app's light. In Glint, open the light for the app the person writes to you in, for example WhatsApp.
- Tap Add a person or word. Under People, tap Add a person or word and type the name exactly as it appears at the top of their notification, for example Mom.
- Pick a colour, edge and style. Give them a colour that no other app uses, and choose where the light sits. A different edge from the app's own light makes it stand out.
- Turn on Remind me. Optionally set the light to blink every few minutes until you have read the message.
- Press Try it on this phone. Check how it looks, then save. From now on a message from that person gets its own light, even inside the same app.
How a person or word is matched
Glint checks the name at the top of the notification, and the message text, against the people and words on your list as the notification arrives. A word such as invoice matches any message that contains it. The check happens on your phone, in memory. Glint does not save the notification text.
Group chats and nicknames
In a group chat the title is the group name, so add the group name as a person if you want a light for it. If a contact is saved under a nickname, use the nickname, because that is what the notification shows.
Hide the message text
Turn on Hide message text for an app and the peek panel shows only who wrote. On the lock screen the text is hidden by default, so a glance shows who, never what.
Tips
How many people can I add?
Free covers 1 person or word. Glint Pro is ₹99, paid once, and lifts the limit.
The light does not appear for a contact
Check that the name matches the one shown in the notification, and that the app itself has a light in Glint.
What Glint reads. Glint reads notifications only from the apps you add, to draw the light and fill the peek panel. It does not save notification text and does not send it anywhere. Privacy policy.
